Live updates: Women’s basketball announces six newcomers

After clinching a conference championship and NCAA tournament berth, USF Women’s basketball is replenishing its roster to have similar success next year.

Coach Jose Fernandez said six new roster players would be announced from Monday-Sunday on the Bulls’ Twitter account, according to a tweet he made on May 8.

“I think you will be very excited about our newcomers, along with the already very talented returning players defending an American conference regular season championship,” Fernandez said in the tweet.

Here’s a look at the six new faces joining the Bulls roster in 2023-24.

Evelien Lutje Schipholt

Senior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt announced she was transferring from UC Berkeley to USF on Monday.

In the 2022-23 season, Schipholt averaged 9.4 points per game and shot 47% from the field with the Golden Bears. She led the team with 60 offensive rebounds, which ranked 13th in the Pac-12 last season.

Along with her rebounding,Schipholt has also blocked shots at a respectable rate. She finished her career with 109 blocks, ranking fifth on Cal’s all-time list. The 6’2 forward averaged 1.3 blocks per game and earned All-Defensive Honorable Mention as a freshman during the 2019-20 season.

She recorded her first double-double against USF on Dec. 20, 2020, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as a sophomore.
