USF has fired baseball head coach Billy Mohl on Monday, according to a USF Athletics press release.

The university called the decision “a change in leadership,” and said that Vice President of Athletics Micheal Kelly will search for a new coach immediately.

The decision comes just two days after a 10-7 season-ending loss to UAB on Saturday. The Bulls needed to win in order to advance to the American Conference tournament.

Mohl was under contract until 2026, and was one of the 14 USF head coaches Kelly extended in 2022. Mohl’s salary is not known at the time of publication. The Oracle has filed a records request for his contract.

The program has been marred by mediocre play in recent years. USF finished this season with a record of 26-29, including 11-16 in the AAC.

It’s the Bulls’ third consecutive losing season after making their first NCAA Super Regionals appearance in 2021.

“I would like to thank coach Mohl for his dedication and commitment to leading our baseball program,” Kelly said. “I have great respect for Billy, and he and his family have been tremendous members of our Bulls family for 10 years. We wish them all the best as they continue their journey.”

Mohl joined the Bulls in 2015 as a pitching coach before being promoted to head coach in 2017.

USF made two NCAA Tournament appearances under Mohl – in 2018 and 2021. He compiled a 174-187-1 record in seven years as head coach.
