University Police investigating potential suicide at Beard Garage
University Police (UP) is currently investigating an “apparent suicide” that happened on the Tampa campus, UP Public Information Representative Michael Lavelle wrote in a statement to The Oracle.
UP was notified through a 911 call on Thursday at around 4:30 p.m. of a person who fell from an upper level of the Richard A. Beard Garage, Lavelle wrote.
Lavelle confirmed the person was not a current USF student.
Last September, a suicide occurred at the same parking garage.
USF announced in September it would implement protective fences on all on-campus parking garages. An update was given to The Oracle in a July 7 email from University Media Relations Manager Kevin Watler. Watler said USF plans to implement a three-phase plan to install suicide prevention measure at its parking garages, which includes fencing.
If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
