Protective fences will be added to the top floor of four parking garages on campus, as announced in a univeristywide email Saturday.

The announcement comes after the death of a student Sept. 16 at the Beard Garage.

Chief Health Officer Donna Petersen said the Facilities Management team will finalize the plans for the fences over the next few weeks. They should be installed over the next few months, according to Petersen.

Petersen also said a yellow bench was placed at the top level of the Beard Garage to raise awareness about mental health.
