Juniors Sebastian Solano and Jessica Malanga were announced as Student Government (SG) president and vice president in the 2023 SG presidential run-off election.

A total of 2,087 votes were cast across all three campuses, in which Solano and Malanga won 1,076. Runners up Cesar Esmeraldi and Elizabeth Volmy drew 1,011 votes, a 65-vote differential. Election results will remain uncertified until any and all grievances are filed and heard, after which they can be finalized, according to the SG Title 7 Election Code of Ethics

SG Supervisor of Elections Laura Shaw announced the results on Thursday morning.

T.H.R.I.V.E. –  or transparency, health, resources, integration, vision and empowerment – is a set of goals the pair said they hope will enhance the role and presence of students in SG proceedings, according to a Feb. 27 Oracle article

Action items outlined under their acronym include holding regular town halls and meetings for students to interact with members of SG, creating student advisory councils and consolidating cross-campus transportation as part of the OneUSF initiative.

Solano and Malanga said they also want to work toward addressing parking concerns on campus by bettering transportation for those living in dorms and highlighting mental health counseling resources for those experiencing mental crises, according to a Feb. 27 Oracle article. Additional objectives include opening tutoring for English and writing majors as well as strengthening student-alumni relations.
