With the season rapidly approaching, schedules for both women’s and men’s tennis were released Tuesday night.

The men begin their season Jan. 17 with an away matchup versus UF, and the women begin their season Jan. 26 in Tallahassee against Florida State.

The men plan to have 24 competitions, while the women have 22 listed on their schedule.

Women’s schedule breakdown

Of the 22 matches on the schedule for the women’s team, five are against AAC competition.

Conference play opens against SMU on March 26, and is quickly followed by Tulane on March 28. The last three matches of the season include UCF on April 9, Wichita State on April 16 and finally Tulsa on April 18.

Coach Cristina Moros discussed the advantages her squad has despite playing a schedule full of conference and regional opponents.

While we may be playing mostly conference and regional teams this year, we have the fortunate opportunity of playing in arguably one of the toughest tennis regions in the country,” Moros said. “So we are not short on any top competition.”

Seven teams on the schedule for the Bulls ended the 2020 season ranked in the top 50. Those teams include Florida State, UCF, Miami, Auburn, Furman, Florida and FIU.

Men’s schedule breakdown

Seven of the men’s 24 matches are versus AAC opponents.

Conference play starts versus UCF on Jan. 29 and is followed by SMU on March 14. It continues with Tulane and UCF again in early April, and the season wraps up with a three-match home stand against Wichita State, Memphis and Tulsa.

Similar to the women, the men have seven teams on their schedule that ended the 2020 season ranked in the top 50, including Texas, TCU, Florida, Miami, UCF, Middle Tennessee State and Tulane.

Coach Ashley Fisher believes that her team’s schedule is strong enough to get the Bulls ready for postseason tournaments.

“We put together a very challenging schedule to provide plenty of opportunities to get quality wins that ultimately will give us the best chance at playing a high level of tennis come time for postseason tournaments in April and May,” Fisher said.
