USF struggles during tough weekend
After losing every game, the weekend did not go according to plan for the USF volleyball team (3-4) after last weekend’s opener that propelled the Bulls to a 3-1 start.
The Bulls faced stiff competition over the weekend. Two of the three teams the Bulls played are already receiving national recognition, with California just outside the Top 25 and Creighton ranked No. 19.
USF did not fare well on the road last year either. Last season, the Bulls ended up with a 6-10 record for away matches. The poor performance on the road has severely limited USF’s potential success.
While USF played competitively this past weekend (five of the nine sets lost were lost by five points or less), they only won one set out of all three matches.
USF coach Courtney Draper said she knew her team was facing a tough weekend. She said she was glad the Bulls were going into the three-game stretch with a winning record. However, Draper said she didn’t think it would be this difficult.
The Bulls enter this week with a losing record. They may be able to look forward to playing lighter competition at FGCU on Tuesday at 7p.m.
FGCU has one win on the season.
After the game at FGCU, the Bulls will make the trip home to face Pittsburgh, FAU and Purdue.
