Mike Doughty

Super-fans of indie musician and blogger Mike Doughty can plot their stalking routes Wednesday as he makes several stops in the Tampa area. Doughty’s songs have been featured in shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Bones,” as well as the Jack Black film “Gulliver’s Travels.” He will be signing copies of his compilation book “The Book of Drugs” at 6 p.m. at Inkwood Books, located at 216 S. Armenia Ave. Doughty will then take the stage at the intimate Ybor City venue The Orpheum before heading to State Theatre in St. Petersburg for an 11:30 p.m. show. Tickets for his State Theater show can be purchased at The Orpheum for $15.50.

The Florida State Fair

There are few mid-semester doldrums that can’t be cured with deep-fried Oreos and shaky, stomach-twisting thrill rides. The Florida State Fair has brought out Tampa’s inner child since 1904. The fair offers kitschy, daily acts such as the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, Racing Pigs and the Blues Brothers, as well as a smattering of Elvis impersonators and bluegrass acts in Cracker Country.

Greg Proops

He may best known as the glasses-adorned member of the improv show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” but Greg Proops also hosts the podcast “The Smartest Man in the World,” where he talks on any subject the audience brings up. Expect plenty of quick-witted, off-the-cuff remarks during his standup set at The Club at Treasure Island.

“The Artist”

Tampa Theatre continues its several-week-long showing of “The Artist,” which was recently nominated for 10 Oscars, with three showings Saturday. Prolonging the coming attractions “Shame” and “We Need Talk to Kevin,” audiences have the chance to see the silent film homage in a theater around during the era of silent film.

“Les Miserables”

Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, this 25th anniversary rendition of “Les Miserables” re-imagines the familiar love story that unfolds during the French Revolution with a new set and a darker tone. The New York Times has called the new take on the classic an “unquestionably spectacular production from start to finish” and Sunday provides your final chance to see the second-longest running musical in the world in Tampa.
