Matchups to watch
Matt Grothe vs. Tyler Cantwell
Matt Grothe and Tyler Cantwell are two of the top quarterbacks in the Big East. Grothe leads the conference with 221.7 passing yards per game, while Cantwell is fourth with 192.2 yards. Both have an efficiency rating of more than 118, but Grothe has USF at 6-1 on the season and in the hunt for a Big East title. If Cantwell can find his receivers early on, though, this could be a shootout.
USF defensive line vs. Victor Anderson
Louisville’s rushing attack is led by redshirt freshman Victor Anderson. He is third in the Big East with 663 yards and provides balance to the team’s passing game. The USF defense, however, allows only 78 rushing yards per game. The Bulls will need the defensive line to contain Anderson to make the Cardinals one-dimensional.
USF secondary vs. Josh Chichester
This matchup could be difficult for USF. The Bulls have allowed teams (UCF, Kansas, FIU) to hit big passing plays late in games all season. Redshirt freshman wide receiver Josh Chichester could hurt the Bulls because of his size. He is 6 feet 8 inches tall and provides Cantwell with a huge target in the redzone. USF’s tallest defender is senior safety Carlton Williams, and he’s only 6 foot 4 inches.
