Fernandez interviews for UNLV vacancy

After the 2007 season, the South Florida women’s basketball team lost its all-time leading scorer in Jessica Dickson. After a 2008 season that saw USF make its fifth consecutive postseason tournament, the University may lose its all-time leader in coaching victories.
Jose Fernandez – who has a 116-123 record in eight seasons at USF – was in Las Vegas on Tuesday, interviewing for the head coaching vacancy at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, according to the St. Petersburg Times.
Fernandez was one of 17 candidates to be interviewed by UNLV at the Final Four – which was held at the St. Pete Times Forum on April 6-8.
UNLV is replacing Regina Miller, its coach for the last 10 seasons. Miller has a career record of 123-139, but was let go after an 8-22 2007-2008 season.
According the UNLV Rebel Yell, Fernandez is not the only candidate to have an on-campus interview. Former UCLA coach Kathy Oliver has had a second interview, with more expected this week.
Fernandez was not available for comment.
