UP apprehends two for comments toward woman

Dennis Sanchez, 20, and Phillip Ramirez, 19, went looking for love in all the wrong places Wednesday night.

University Police apprehended Sanchez and Ramirez, who have no affiliation with USF, around 7 p.m. last night after receiving a call from a female student threatened by the two men minutes earlier, said Sgt. Gregory of UP.

Comments shouted by the two men from Sanchez’s white Chevy S10 pickup as the female student walked through the parking lot behind Greek Village caused her to fear for her safety, Gregory said. When she called UP, the two men sped off and were attempting to leave the scene through the Greek Village entrance on Maple Drive when UP stopped them.

Police declined to charge the two men on the scene, instead sending the case to the State Attorney’s Office with the recommendation Sanchez and Ramirez be charged with assault.

Three USF police cruisers eventually arrived on the scene, and several officers participated in the questioning of the suspects. They were released around 8 p.m., Gregory said.
