Two will be named to football coaching staff
The USF football team has filled a couple of coaching holes this week. Former Duke coach Carl Franks and former Bucs receiver Lawrence Dawsey have accepted jobs as South Florida assistants, a Tampa Tribune report said.
The two will be officially named coaches next week, according to the Tribune. Franks will coach the running backs while Dawsey will be the receivers coach.
Before the head coaching job at Duke, Franks was an assistant under Steve Spurrier at Florida.
Dawsey was an All-American wide receiver at FSU before he played receiver for the Bucs. Last year he was a graduate administrative assistant for the BCS national champion LSU Tigers.
Franks and Dawsey will fill the coaching vacancies left by Leroy Ryals, who went to LSU, and Tom Pajic who also left the team.
Royal suspended, Houston may be done
The careers of two USF football players are in question. Junior defensive end Terrance Royal has been placed on indefinite suspension and junior guard Shelly Houston’s USF career is likely done, coach Jim Leavitt told the Tribune.
Last month, University Police questioned both players about the theft of an Xbox and games, a USF police spokesman told the Tribune. Royal was second on the team in tackles for a loss last year.
