USF announces stadium groundbreaking date
Time to break out the shovels.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the on-campus stadium will be held during Homecoming Week, scheduled for Oct. 14-19, 2024, USF announced Thursday.
The university said it would break ground in the fall of this year at a Board of Trustees meeting in December.
The stadium is expected to be completed in March 2027, according to university documents. The document also stated an Athletics center, mainly for football and women’s lacrosse, is expected to open in 2026.
The Athletics center, officially named the Tampa General Hospital (TGH) Center for Athletic Excellence, will feature many amenities for student-athletes. These include Locker rooms, sports medicine and treatment spaces, and strength and conditioning rooms.
It was announced earlier this week Manhattan Construction Company, H.J. Russell & Company and DuCon, LLC will serve as the construction team for the project.
The three firms boast an astounding portfolio of developments. This includes Hartsfield Jackson Airport and Mercedes Benz Arena in Atlanta and Tampa Housing Authority.
Populous is still the architecture firm overseeing the on-campus stadium.

The stadium is anticipated to have approximately 35,000 seats and an open-air concept to maximize views of the field. It will be located in Sycamore Fields next to the USF football practice fields.
Thursday’s announcement comes days before the annual football spring game on Saturday.
