Women’s Basketball GAME TIME

USF travels to Rutgers on Saturday for a matchup in which both teams will look to return to the success they had earlier this season.

The Scarlet Knights began the preseason ranked No. 3 in the ESPN/USA Today poll. However, an 11-6 record has brought them out of the top 25 this week for the first time this season.

The Bulls (15-6, 2-5) finished their non-conference schedule with an impressive 13-1 record. However, USF has lost five of its last seven games — including an 86-68 home loss to Georgetown on Saturday.

Following the death of Hall of Fame coach Kay Yow on Saturday, Rutgers coach Vivian Stringer publicly expressed her remorse on ESPN.

“She taught all of us how to handle personal battles with a great deal of grace and acceptance and by believing that God would see us through,” Stringer said. “Kay was the person I could best identify with and knew would understand. And she did.”

Stringer — also a breast cancer survivor — could have an inspired Scarlett Knights team.

The Bulls were picked to finished 12th in the Big East at the beginning of the season. South Florida, however, sits at 13th in the Big East with nine Big East games left to play.

The Big East has six teams over .500, and a win over Rutgers could put USF as high as 10th in the conference.
