OPINION: USF baseball steals The Oracle’s best, while softball falls behind

USF Athletics has brought its fair share of solid performances throughout the spring semester.
Over the past week, the Bulls excelled in baseball and track and field, while falling behind in softball and women’s tennis.
Here are the best and worst of USF sports from the last week.
Best of the Bulls

USF baseball continued its hot streak over the weekend with a series win over Memphis.
The Bulls have won eight of their last nine games, led by junior pitcher Corey Braun. Braun has gathered four wins in eight starts as the Bulls ace.
Once again, Braun finds himself on the positive side of the best and worst of the week following his 8-inning win over Memphis on Friday.
Senior infielder Sebastian Greico went 10-18 throughout the week, including a four hit performance against Bethune-Cookman on April 1.

On the track, the Bulls showed out as they broke four program records in the Pepsi Florida Relays on Saturday.
Junior Abdul-Rasheed Saminu ran a speedy 9.87 seconds in the 100-meter dash — good enough for the fastest time in the event.
It wasn’t just Saminu who shattered program records, though — senior Gabriel Moronta, junior Rushana Dwyer and sophomore Jason Nwosu all broke program records in their respective events.
Worst of the Bulls

For other Bulls, the weekend was not as successful as a team might hope.
On the grassless diamond, USF softball dropped its series against No. 23 FAU over the weekend.
Despite taking a game against the Owls on Saturday, the Bulls largely struggled to cross the plate in both of their losses.

South Florida lost 8-0 on Friday, only making it to the fifth inning before the game was called early by the NCAA’s Mercy Rule.
On Sunday, the Bulls only crossed the plate once despite getting seven hits.
On the tennis court, USF women’s tennis dropped a pair of games to Rice and FIU. The Bulls lost all 12 of their singles matches over the weekend. They also only came away with two wins in six matches in the doubles category.
USF women’s tennis drops to 6-14 on the year.
