PHOTOS: USF introduces Bryan Hodgson as new men’s basketball coach

USF introduced Brian Hodgson as the 12th men’s basketball coach in program history on Friday morning at the Muma Basketball Center.

Hodgson, 37, promised to be a leader for a program that’s being led by it’s fourth head coach in four seasons.

“Being a basketball coach is more about calling plays and making substitutions,” Hodgson said. “It’s about being a mentor, a leader, and a role model to these young men.”

Hodgson was hired at USF Monday after two seasons at Arkansas State. He previously served as the top assistant under head coach Nate Oats at Buffalo and Alabama from 2015-2023.

He was introduced by USF Athletic Director Micheal Kelly and university president Rhea Law. Jim Lighthall — the radio voice for USF basketball for over 20 years — also spoke at the event.

Hodgson said the program will uphold the legacy of former Bulls coach Amir Abdur-Rahim — who died unexpectedly at age 43 in October.

“We will honor him every day when we step foot in this building by conducting ourselves in the same manner as coach,” Hodgson said.
