OPINION: The shows USF students are watching to relieve stress this semester

With the semester in full swing, stress piles up fast and so does the workload. The best way to recharge is by getting lost in a great series.
For me, that show is “Yellowjackets.” The show’s unpredictable twists and complex female characters keep me hooked, always leaving me wanting more.
But what about other USF students? What shows help them escape, and why?
Kasey Rea
Junior, major in marine biology and minor in environmental science and policy
“My favorite TV show right now is a 2010s show called ‘Veep.’ I started watching it a few weeks ago and it is hilarious. It follows the daily shenanigans and struggles of a vice president and her team.”
Rea said the political satire comedy has a niche sense of humor, so it may not be for everyone, but the type of jokes and topics of the episodes speak to her character and what she’s interested in.
“I love a well-written sitcom, and I keep returning to ‘Veep’ because it makes me laugh and lets me escape real life for a little bit.”
Jack Georgiades
Senior, major in anthropology
“‘NCIS’ is my favorite because I’ve always loved crime shows and considered a career with the FBI. The genre feels comforting, with long-running shows offering plenty of character development and evolving relationships, all while maintaining a strong plot.”
Andrea Raya
Senior, major in biological health sciences and minor in nutrition
“A show I’m currently really enjoying is ‘S.W.A.T.’ on Netflix. I seek action or love—a blood rush. I think the shows I watch reflect that, since I love adrenaline and am very outgoing, but I also like to be secure and safe about it.”
Eric Earley
Junior, major in finance
“My favorite show right now is ‘Squid Game.’ I keep coming back to it because of the drama and suspense throughout the series. I wouldn’t say it reflects who I am as a person, but it speaks to my interests.”
Brooklyn Wheat
Junior, major in integrated public relations & advertising
“The show I’ve been obsessing over has been ‘Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir.’ It’s a colorful show with a lot of heart.”
Wheat says it was a childhood show of hers and it progressed a lot in its major plot points.
“I believe it shows my childish nature and how I’m a kid and full of life at heart. It shows I like to do things to make my inner child happy.”
Tanner Sanchez
USF alumni majored in business analytics
“I would say my favorite show is ‘Adventure Time.’ I come back to it because every episode is enjoyable and also they’re only 11 minutes long.”
Sanchez says the character development and plot are very good for a “kids show.”
Staying on top of assignments is important, but so is giving our minds a break. Whether it’s action, comedy, romance, or drama USF students have found what shows help them unwind and recharge.
