Tchewa to return to USF this weekend
Coach Brian Gregory announced on Twitter on Thursday junior center Russel Tchewa will be returning to Tampa on Saturday.
GREAT NEWS…@russelltchewa’s student visa has been approved and he’s heading back to Tampa on Saturday!
I want to thank the USF administration, our elected officials, national and local media, and our great fans for helping spread the word about Russel’s situation. #HornsUp 🤘

Since May 2022, Tchewa has been in Cameroon visiting his family and assisting his ill father. The center had made a similar visit in 2021 and was able to return with ease, but not this year.
When applying for his student visa to return to Tampa, it was flagged for review by the U.S. Government. More information for his visa was requested and provided promptly after.
As Tchewa awaited his visa with classes beginning at USF and basketball preparations occurring, he made a post on Twitter hoping someone that could help would see.
I’m hopeful someone who sees this can help me get back to my USF Family. Thank you for your support! pic.twitter.com/PALJZs0u2g

“I want to thank the USF administration, our elected officials, national and local media, and our great fans for helping spread the word about Russel’s situation,” Gregory said.
Tchewa has yet to make a comment about his return.
