Through a post on the @USFFootball Twitter account, sophomore quarterback Cade Fortin has been announced as the team’s starter as Week 1 against NC State approaches.

The Bulls are set to kick off their season against the Wolfpack on Sept. 2, and Fortin will be taking snaps from under center.

Up to this point, it was unclear whether freshman Timmy McClain, sophomores Jarren Williams and Katravis Marsh or Fortin would top the depth chart.

Through multiple reports and from coach Jeff Scott himself, Fortin progressed substantially in the offseason and had a strong spring and fall, positioning himself to take the job in 2021.

In USF’s spring game, Fortin finished 14-of-23 for 224 passing yards and two touchdowns, including a 50-yard heave to junior receiver Xavier Weaver on the first play from scrimmage.

The Bulls will open their 25th season against the NC State Wolfpack on Sept. 2 in Raleigh, NC.
