Tall, glowing and full of windows, the USF Health expansion into downtown Tampa has received an official new look.
USF Health released renderings Tuesday of what the new Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute are expected to look like from the outside. The building is expected to house both the school and the research center.
Current cost estimation is $152.6 million and was designed by Skanska/HOK.
The expansion is part of a $3 billion real estate development program lead by Jeff Vinik and Cascade Investment, LLC. The group is developing 53 acres of downtown Tampa in a goal to make it a more walkable, sustainable and healthy environment.
The USF expansion is expected to accommodate 2,275 faculty, staff and students when it opens in late 2019. The new location will put the school closer to Tampa General Hospital.
Construction is expected to begin in August.
The Recreation and Wellness Center plans to open a new bouldering wall after spring break following multiple delays, according to assistant director of outdoor recreation Jason Gosch.
