Defensive line coach arrested for DUI

USF defensive line coach Eric Mathies was arrested at 3:40 a.m. Saturday for driving under the influence after he was pulled over for driving 60 mph in a 45 mph zone.

He was stopped on Hyde Park Avenue and refused a breathalyzer test, according to the Hillsborough County police report. The coach’s bond was set at $500 and he was released the day of the arrest.

Going into his second year with the Bulls, Mathies aided the Bulls in posting 7.6 tackles for loss per game last season, which raised the Bulls to 12th place in the FBS.

USF has not released an official statement on the arrest.
