Charlie Crist to visit USF today
Former Florida governor Charlie Crist, who is running for governor again this year, will visit USF today to discuss higher education – and support his former campaign aid Jean Cocco’s campaign for student body president.
Crist will arrive at 2 p.m. and speak with students in the Marshall Student Amphitheatre for half an hour, Katie Bohnett, director of scheduling at Charlie Crist for Governor 2014, said.
Cocco, who worked as an aid to Crist in 2010, said he suggested Crist to come to USF as an opportunity to meet students.
“He wants to talk with students,” Cocco said. “He’s from Tampa Bay, and USF represents all of Tampa Bay. … He’s (also) here to promote the ‘We the Students’ campaign and talk to students about his campaign. We’re going to talk to students about our relationship and how we can improve USF and the state of Florida together.”
Crist is expected to talk to students about higher education and bolstering the relationship between USF and Florida state government, Cocco said.
Cocco posted a photo on his Facebook page earlier this week of Crist holding up a Cocco-Whyte shirt, and Crist’s wife, Carole, donated $100 to Cocco’s campaign.
