Bonani recognized for record-breaking performance
Despite another loss for the football team, kicker Maikon Bonani was recognized for breaking school records in the homecoming game against Syracuse on Saturday.
Bonani was named the Big East special teams player of the week, a Lou Groza award star of the week and the College Football Performance national kicker of the week after he made a school-record five field goals and accounted for 15 of the teams 36 points in the Bulls loss to the Orange.
He was honored before the season with a spot on the Lou Groza award watch list, for the award given to the nations top kicker. Bonani became USFs all-time scoring leader with his third extra point of the game in USFs season-opening win over Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Maikon Bonani was awesome tonight, coach Skip Holtz said Saturday night. He did a great job getting height on his kicks and splitting the uprights. He played very well.
Miller finishes 15th in South Carolina
Junior womens golfer Christina Miller finished the final round with a + 1 in the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate held in Kiawah Island, S.C., tying for 15th place. Miller finished the tournament with a score of six-over, and finished nine strokes behind the tournaments individual winner.
The Intercollegiate was the final fall tournament for the USF womens golf team, which will begin its spring
season Jan. 28. Miller finished in the Top 25 of the final standings for the 16th time in her career at USF after winning the 2011-12 Big East player of the year.
Coach Marci Kornegay said Miller and the rest of the team needs to evaluate its fall performance and improve before the spring season begins.
Our offseason is coming at a good time to evaluate why we arent scoring and to make changes, Kornegay said. We will be spending our time on the short game.
