Governor asks SBA to help Hillsborough County

TAMPA – Gov. Rick Scott has submitted a letter to the U.S. Small Business Administration, requesting help for residents and business owners in Hillsborough County.

Tuesday’s request was a response to a storm last week that produced heavy rain, hail, damaging winds and up to nine tornadoes tore through the county. Damage was reported to 153 homes and business properties.

Scott is asking the SBA to make a physical disaster declaration for Hillsborough County and offer low-interest SBA loans to affected residents and business owners.

Hillsborough County officials declared a local state of emergency Monday, so that nearly $3 million in state and federal money would be made available for debris cleanup, rehabilitation of damaged homes and temporary housing assistance.
