Boy allowed back to school after being expelled

FORT LAUDERDALE — A boy is allowed back at school after being expelled last year for bringing a toy gun to school.

District officials also said Tuesday that the incident won’t follow him as he goes through school.

The boy can return to school on Wednesday, but he needs to  be assessed to see how far behind his classmates he is. His mother said she tutored him, but isn’t a

professional teacher.

Last year, the boy forgot to remove a toy gun from his bag and brought it to Pembroke Pines Charter School. It was discovered when a friend saw him looking in the bag.

The Broward schools superintendent said the district’s zero-tolerance policy is the best way of making sure students are safe.
