EASTON, Pa. – Authorities in eastern Pennsylvania say a Florida woman has been arrested in the shooting death of a man a quarter-century ago.
Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said Tuesday that the 55-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday in Jacksonville. She is accused of killing 51-year-old John Joseph Mayerchak, who was found dead Sept. 3, 1985.
Authorities said in court documents that a friend told them that she got a call from the woman at about the time of the murder. Authorities allege that she asked for a ride from Northampton to Allentown and admitted during the drive that she had killed Mayerchak over a dispute about money.
Morganelli said she fled the state shortly afterward, and she will be extradited from Florida.
