Carjackers arrested
University Police arrested two men early Monday morning after they robbed a rental car and drove onto campus in an attempt to evade deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
According to arrest reports, Robert Forte, 35, and Antonio Davis, 27, had a gun with them when they robbed a man’s rented Dodge Charger from the Super Motel 8 on Fletcher Avenue. They were followed by an off-duty HCSO deputy, the report states, and turned onto campus at N. Palm Drive, entering the parking lot next to the USF Credit Union.
Forte and Davis left the car on foot when they struck a raised curb, officers said. UP officers and sheriff’s deputies arrested them around 1:30 a.m. UP reports state that a sweep of the area following the arrest produced a silver Bryco handgun and that Forte was in possession of a Beretta pistol. Deputies confiscated both weapons.
The pair has been charged with multiple offenses by UP and HCSO, including carjacking, possession of a firearm on school property, carrying a concealed firearm, resisting an officer without violence, and fleeing and attempting to elude the police.
Both men are being held without bail at Orient Road Jail.
