Addressing an artist’s impact

Miwon Kwon, an associate professor of Contemporary Art History at UCLA, speaks Thursday to USF students at the Fine Arts Building in a lecture titled “The Becoming of a Work of Art: Felix Gonzalez-Torres and a Possibility of Renewal.”

Gonzalez-Torres was a Cuban-born American artist, and Kwon spoke about the type of art he produced and its impact. He combined aspects of conceptual art with minimalism and political activism. He created many pieces of “democratic artwork,” such as give-away piles of candies and papers. Kwon said his work addressed ownership and authenticity of visual art.
