Start accessorizing

What is a banana split without a cherry to top it off? Likewise, no outfit would be complete without the right accessories.

This season’s jewelry and accessories range from classic to funky and are easy to pair with any outfit. The only limits depend on a student’s mood and individual style.

Don’t just think that accessories are limited to a feminine wardrobe. Most men’s stores feature bracelets and shell necklaces. This season, leather straps worn around the wrist are popular for guys. The straps have the “worn” look and come in both black and brown.

Girls are also wearing leather strap bracelets and shell necklaces. The feminine version of the look is more delicate whereas the male styles look bulkier. These items are great for dressing down an outfit or for looking more hip.

Silver rings and necklaces remain popular. These are perfect for any occasion, whether dressing up or down. Another accessory on its way up is the sweatband. No, these are not only meant for athletes who want to wipe the sweat off their brow; these accessories are fashionable and useful. After all, it’s Florida, and it does get hot. Sweatbands come in a variety of colors and men usually sport these on wrists and just below the elbow. They look good on casual days and can match any color shirt or shoe.

Gold jewelry is making a quick comeback. Although gold was seemed to be only for the ’80s many accessory stores are once again carrying gold earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings.

Speaking of the ’80s, plastic black and pink bracelets are suddenly appearing frequently in magazines. These can spice up outfits meant to be classic or funky. Fashion-forward students can pair these with jeans and a matching shirt or to look more trendy, a colorful shirt and pants.

Because bright, colorful clothes are all the rage this season, there is no exception for colorful jewelry to accessorize an outfit. Pink, green and yellow chandelier earrings and bracelets are found in most clothing boutiques. Hoop earrings are also a good investment. Silver and gold has been popping up on runway models and magazine covers lately. Hoop earrings come in a variety of sizes and some are sold as sets, so you can match a different size for any outfit or look.

Rings are still a popular item. From toes to fingers, girls are finding new designs a great way to show off pedicures, manicures or a new pair of shoes. Girls all around campus are wearing simple silver toe rings. Silver band rings are are also popular. These can be worn on any finger, including the thumb; in fact, guys and girls are now making a statement bywearing simple rings on their hitchhiking finger.

Accessorizing an outfit is a great way to show personal style. It shows that students put time and effort into their appearance. The jewelry we mentioned is affordable and sold in most stores in the mall as well as in the individual stands. Those with a creative spark can make some of these items easily to get a personalized look.
