Bulls skidding may lead to losing tournament bid
The baseball team struggled over the two-week break. USF dropped three series and won only two of eight games.
The Bulls were in the hunt for a top spot in the conference until they lost five straight conference series in a one-month span.
They are now battling for a spot in the eight-team Conference USA tournament with two series to go.
USF is tied for sixth in the conference with UAB and Memphis. Louisville and Charlotte are lurking one game behind in seventh place.
All five teams are battling for the final three spots.
The Bulls have two three-game series against UAB and Louisville, which are pivotal for a spot in the tournament.
One bright spot was a 9-4 win in the series opener against No. 13 Tulane in Louisiana, snapping a three game skid.
Jeff Baisley hit a grand slam and Bryan Heirlmeier hit for the cycle, going 4 for 5.
The win was the second win over a ranked opponent this season.
Myron Leslie saw a 14-game hitting streak snapped in a loss to Tulane later in the weekend.
Devin Ivany leads the team with a .355 batting average. Ivany has started all of USF’s 46 games at catcher this season.
