Bulls host in-state rival Dolphins today
The USF baseball team hosts in-state rival Jacksonville today at 3 at Red McEwen Field in the first game of a three-game broken series against the Dolphins.
The Bulls (3-0) are coming off a three-game home sweep against East Tennessee State to begin the season and will face a Jacksonville team that they didn’t lose to last season.
USF’s pitching staff, which boasts a pair of freshmen and a junior transfer, posted a 2.33 ERA during the opening weekend of the season.
Sophomore Kris Howell leads the Bulls at the plate with a .625 average through the first three games.
Golf team ninth after opening rounds
The USF’s men’s golf team stands in ninth place after the first 36 holes of the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Central Florida.
The Bulls shot a combined 602, which is 25 shots over that of the leader, the University of South Alabama.
UCF is one shot back after the first day, followed by Coastal Carolina, Lamar University and the University of Texas-Arlington.
Ryan Shears led the way for USF after playing rounds of 73 and 74, leaving him tied for 15th. Dan Grassman was next with a 149 two-round score, placing him in a tie for 23rd place, while Brad Quiri and Oscar Fraustro are tied for 41st at 153.
USF plays the final 18 holes of the tournament today.
