C-USA tourney begins

The Conference USA Women’s Tennis Tournament begins Saturday in New Orleans, with No. 5 seed USF facing 12th-seeded Charlotte in the final match of the opening day.

Though they finished the regular season with a sub-par 9-10 record, the Bulls earned the tournament’s fifth seed by posting a 5-2 mark in conference play. One of the five C-USA victories came March 2 against Charlotte, by a narrow 4-3 margin.

In their most recent match, the Bulls lost 5-1 to C-USA rival Memphis, halting a three-game winning streak that included 4-2 victories against C-USA opponents Cincinnati and DePaul.

Tulane, the host team, is the top-seeded team in the tournament, while defending champion TCU is seeded second. Both received first-round byes.

The tourney concludes Tuesday.
