Jimmy Baxter and Chandra Brewer have been recognized for their record-setting, NCAA-qualifying performances Saturday in Miami.
Conference USA named the pair Athletes of the Week Wednesday, marking the first time that USF athletes have won both awards in the same week.
Baxter established the nation’s top mark in the high jump and broke his own school record with a leap of 7 feet, 4 1/2 inches at the Miami Gatorade Invitational. Baxter, also a member of the USF basketball team, earned All-American status last year by finishing sixth in the high jump at the NCAAs.
Brewer also broke her own school record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a throw of 51 feet in the shot put. The throw is the top mark in Conference USA this year.
