Baxter posts nation’s No. 1 jump

At the Miami Gatorade Invitational Saturday, USF sophomore Jimmy Baxter posted a 7-foot, 4 1/2-inch jump, the best mark in the high jump this season in the entire country.

Baxter, an All-American a year ago, topped his own school record by an inch and a half with the jump and set a meet record.

In high school, Baxter set the state record at 7-foot-2 while at Boca Ciega in St. Petersburg. Since coming to USF, Baxter has been named Conference USA Freshman of the Year, while becoming C-USA champ in the long jump and the first freshman All-American in USF’s history.
