Briefs: McCready waived by Pats

Former USF wide receiver Scott McCready was released Monday by the New England Patriots. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound wideout was signed on April 27 by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent.McCready was the Bulls’ top receiver on last year’s squad, catching a team-high 37 passes for 517 yards and six touchdowns.

Vaughan interviews at USC

USF men’s assistant basketball coach Clyde Vaughan interviewed Monday for the vacant Southern California assistant coaching position.

Vaughan, who has coached at USF for two years, and former Michigan assistant Kurtis Townsend are considered to be the favorites to replace USC assistant Silvey Dominguez, who left for Texas-El Paso.

Vaughan and USC coach Henry Bibby recruited against each other in California when Vaughan was an assistant at Long Beach State.
