USF Cricket team wins national title

While other USF teams have failed to win a national title in recent years, the USF Cricket team made it to the final round in the American College Cricket national championship for the fourth year in a row. This time, however, they brought home the national title.

Beating Rutgers in the semi-finals, USF won the finals against Auburn in Ft. Lauderdale in March, scoring 68 runs and winning by 7 wickets. Auburn fell short with 67 runs, all out.

Not only was this the first time USF Cricket won a national championship, but also the first time a non-international cricket match aired on EPSN3.

USF player Himavanth Reddy Ganta, an international graduate student, said cricket is quickly becoming a popular sport in the U.S.

“The sport is growing rapidly… The American College Cricket championship is helping with the popularity of cricket, especially on college campuses,” he said.
