Baxter named track athlete of the week
USF high jumper Jimmy Baxter received accolades from Conference USA last weekend, after clearing a 7foot-5inch jump in the South Florida Invitational April 4-5.
The junior basketball/track standout was named C-USA athlete of the week after setting a school record with his jump. The jump was also the best in America this year, and is the sixth best in the world.
Baxter responded to the praise with modesty.
“It feels good (to win), man, I am just representing the school like I am supposed to,” Baxter said.
Baxter said he knew that he was going to clear the mark on his second attempt.
“I knew I was going clear it, because I came on down on the bar the first time,” Baxter said. “The crowd was real hyped. I didn’t want to let them down.”
