Student Government: SG hopes to monitor how students vote
The next time you vote in a Student Government election, SG might be watching.
During Tuesday’s senate meeting, some members expressed interest in implementing a vote-tracking system, through which SG members could identify certain demographics and give the University raw statistics about who is voting where and when, said Senate President Juan Soltero.
The voting system would cost $6,000 to operate, according to a bill authored by Daniel Shelnutt.
“It will be like a firewall. What will happen is that students that vote on Blackboard will be shadowed,” Soltero said.
He said that SG would be able to tell if the person voting is a graduate or an undergraduate student and would get access to IP addresses to see the locations from which people are voting.
The bill will be up for vote at the senate’s Nov. 25 meeting.
