Late goals lead to 3-0 win over Owls
Freshman Sebastien Thuriere may have earned himself some quality playing time heading down the stretch.
Just minutes after entering the game, the young midfielder found himself wide open, but well beyond the 18-yard box. He took a shot anyway, and his instincts helped the Bulls return to the win column.
“I’m a sub. I’m trying to go in there and prove myself in a way,” Thuriere said. “I play on such a great team. It’s hard to get playing time with me being so young and everything. I just came in and did exactly what coach told me to do.”
His first goal as a Bull proved to be the difference as the Bulls pulled away late against the Florida Atlantic Owls.
The Owls went neck and neck with the Bulls for almost 80 minutes.
“The FAU game is always a battle,” coach George Kiefer said. “That’s why I like playing them. They play good soccer. It was a good result for us and to get three goals was huge.”
The shutout gave the Bulls nine on the year, tying a record for the most in a single season.
The scoreboard, however, didn’t indicate the type of game that was played. The Owls entered the game aggressively and held USF scoreless for all but the final 10 minutes, when the Bulls made their string of goals.
“They always play that way, especially against us,” Kiefer said. “They always come at us fast but I think that helps us. It gets us into the game.”
Thuriere’s goal, along with goals by Armante Marshall and Kevon Neaves, helped shut the door on FAU.
“It’s a great win,” Thuriere said. “We needed to get back on track before we head out for two road games.”
