Former USF football player found, three still missing

One of four missing boaters was found Monday — former USF walk-on defensive end Nick Schuyler — clinging to the 21-foot Everglades Center Console fishing boat the players took out Saturday morning.

Schuyler was on the boat with former USF player Will Bleakley and former Buccaneers players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith. The other three men have not been found.

Taken to Tampa General Hospital, Schuyler is in serious condition but able to speak, the St. Petersburg Times reported in the afternoon.

The group departed at 6:30 a.m. Saturday from Seminole Boat Ramp in Clearwater Pass, and the Coast Guard received a call early Sunday morning that the men had not returned.

The Coast Guard searched more than 16,000 miles of Gulf Coast waters and found the overturned boat. Schuyler told the Coast Guard it was anchored 35 miles offshore when it flipped.

Crystal Lake High School’s, where Bleakley graduated, athletics director Tony Stukes said that the school was monitoring the situation closely.

“He’s in everyone’s minds and prayers,” he said.
