Students, faculty and staff warned not to leave vehicles parked in the on-campus Publix lot

USF is serving notice about parking regulations at the new on-campus Publix, which opened Dec. 6.
Throughout December, the USF website said the Publix at Fletcher Avenue and Palm Drive could not be utilized as a "USF-designated parking lot" since the 28,000-square-foot store is open to the general public.
The university reiterated its message in an email to students, faculty and staff Monday. The message, according to the email sent by University Communications and Marketing: Students who park long term at Publix without actively shopping are at risk of having their car towed by order of store management.
Assistant Director of Administrative Services Aaron Nichols said the lot is not monitored by USF Parking and Transportation Services, meaning parking permits have no effect and citations would not be administered at that location.
It remains unclear how Publix will monitor the traffic flow of the parking lot and determine an appropriate time period for when a person’s vehicle would be towed. Publix spokesman Brian West was unavailable for comment.
