Prepare for parking problems near Sun Dome on Wednesday
Finding parking spots near the Sun Dome may be a little more difficult come Wednesday morning.
Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden is expected to hold a rally at the Sun Dome this Wednesday. For the event, the University is closing its parking lot on the east side of the Sun Dome (22F) for VIP parking, said University Police spokeswoman Lt. Meg Ross.
This parking lot holds about 230 spots, said Anthony Thorp, an employee of Parking and Transportation Services. The Sun Dome has more than 2,000 parking spaces.
The event is expected to draw about 2,500 visitors, which is not a large number compared to how much the Sun Dome can hold — about 10,000 people, Ross said. Also, Ross expects that most participants will get there before the students do.
Doors open for the event at 8:30 a.m., before most students have class, she said.
“At 8 o’clock, we’ll start to see some traffic,” she said.
Students can still expect to experience higher-than-normal traffic congestion until 1 p.m., stated a UP news release.
