Bicyclist transported to hospital after accident
About five Tampa Fire Rescue paramedics tended a bicyclist involved in a near-collision with a USF Bull Runner bus Wednesday night.
A green stoplight prompted the bus driver to turn right on Holly Drive while the male traveled north on a sidewalk on Palm Drive near the northeast side of campus.
The male was going so fast his front wheel locked up when he braked. It threw him over the handlebars, said University Police (UP) spokeswoman Lt. Meg Ross.
It didn’t appear that contact was made between the bicyclist and the bus, but the male suffered an injury to his right forearm.
Paramedics placed the victim on a stretcher and transported him to University Community Hospital (UCH), Ross said.
UCH would not release the victim’s medical status. UP would not release whether the male was a USF student.
UP received a call at 6:56 p.m. that someone had fallen off a golf cart, Ross said. After realizing what had happened when they arrived on scene, UP officers called Tampa Fire Rescue.
It appears that charges will not be filed, Ross said. No crash report was written, and UP has the bicycle in possession.
UP directed traffic until the scene was cleared at 7:30 p.m. Bystanders said they did not witness the incident.
