Bulls to host Western Michigan tonight
The newly named Big East Player of the Week leads the USF softball team against Western Michigan tonight after two losses during Sunday’s doubleheader.
Freshman Stephanie Medina earned the honor for her performance batting cleanup. Medina had seven hits during the USF Fairfield Inn & Suites Tampa North Tournament, including two doubles and two home runs for a .636 average. Her batting average of .341 now leads the team.
Out of 15 total runs scored by the Bulls (7-8) this weekend, Medina collected RBIs on seven. Medina’s 11 RBIs only trails fellow freshman shortstop Kourtney Salvarola, who has 15. Medina and Salvarola are tied for the team lead in home runs this season with two apiece.
“She is locked in right now,” coach Ken Eriksen said. “She’s such a humble kid. She just wants to play ball. Nobody has to tell her she did a great job. She did the job she’s expected to do.”
The Broncos picked up the first win of their season Tuesday against Maine.
The game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
