USF to test EmergencyNotification System
Students on campus Saturday evening may hear startling chimes, but they don’t need to be alarmed.
USF will conduct a campus-wide test of the Emergency Notification System at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
“We need to make sure the system functions,” said Lt. Christopher Daniel, University Police spokesman. “We would rather know now than when there really is an emergency.”
According to an e-mail sent to all USF students, the test is expected to last no longer than 20 to 30 seconds.
The e-mail also states that when the alarm sounds, students are expected to hear Westminster chimes and a notification stating, “This is a test.”
In September, students in the Marshall Student Center received a false alarm when they were alerted that there was a tornado warning in effect and students should remain indoors.
Scares that involved supposed gunmen tested security measures on campus last year.
