Reports: Bulls to sign Arizona State transfer
A day after signing an extension until 2015, USF men’s basketball coach Stan Heath received more good news, as Victor Rudd is expected to join the Bulls after transferring from Arizona State, according to reports.
Rudd, a 6-foot-8 small forward, will have to sit out the 2010-11 season because of NCAA transfer rules, however.
Rivals.com rated Rudd as a three-star recruit coming out of high school, and he averaged 2.5 points in 5.2 minutes a game as a freshman last season.
He could join forwards Augustus Gilchrist, Ron Anderson and Toarlyn Fitzpatrick, who will all still have college eligibility in 2012. Senior Jarrid Famous could be USF’s only loss following next season.
Quarterback pledge makes six
On Friday, the Bulls added to their 2011 football recruits, as Land ‘O Lakes quarterback Stephen Weatherford verbally committed to USF.
Weatherford is USF’s sixth commitment of this recruiting cycle.
The Bulls have little depth behind starter B.J. Daniels, a redshirt sophomore. Incoming freshman Jamius Gunsby, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound dual-threat quarterback from Georgia who also had an offer from Florida, could make a push for the backup spot. Evan Landi, who’s played both quarterback and receiver at USF, could be used if Daniels goes down, but coach Skip Holtz said Landi’s primary position is receiver.
Weatherford, who is 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, passed for 2,052 yards and 27 touchdowns as a junior.
