The ‘Double Down’ low
Many people have spoken the phrase “heaven on Earth,” but rarely has it been more accurate than when it describes the delectable, mouthwatering taste of KFC’s latest invention: the “Double Down.”
This tasty gem offers everything you could want in a sandwich: two slabs of either original recipe or fried chicken, delicious slices of melted Monterey Jack and pepper jack cheese, the colonel’s special sauce and two strips of bacon.
I mean, who doesn’t love bacon?
The kicker is the sandwich goes breadless, with pieces of chicken serving as a bun. It’s as if chicken voted to disallow carbohydrates from the equation. Well played, I say.
However, I must warn that the Double Down is not for the faint of heart – literally. According to KFC’s website, the original recipe Double Down boasts 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1,380 milligrams of sodium – while the grilled version contains 460 calories, 23 grams of fat and 1,430 milligrams of sodium.
Neither will be endorsed as healthy dining options anytime soon, but considering some of the other fast-food sandwiches out there – like Wendy’s Baconator – you could do a whole lot worse.
You could order another mundane sandwich if you choose, but that would be a mistake. If you want to end your semester in a euphoric haze of joy and meat, get a Double Down for less than $6.
Your taste buds will thank you.
