USF softball player Kattrina Dowd was dismissed from the team Wednesday for violating unspecified team rules.
Dowd led the team in batting average (.486), slugging percentage (.571) and walks (9) through 13 of the Bulls’ 22 games. Dowd was suspended for five games in the beginning of the season because of what coach Ken Eriksen called “team academic rules.”
Eriksen would not comment on what rules Dowd broke, but he said it was his decision and it was not for academics.
Volleyball verbal: Brittany Castelamare, a setter for River Ridge High, has verbally committed to the USF volleyball team.
In her senior season, Castelamare led the team in assists (794) and kills (186) and was named the Florida Athletic Coaches Association’s Class 5A-District 8 Player of the Year. Coach Claire Lessinger could not comment on recruits, but the signing of Castelamare could help the Bulls replace freshman setter Kate Verhoff.
Verhoff, who led USF in assists (910), left the team for personal reasons this semester.
