Women’s basketball picked to finish first in AAC preseason polls

In a preseason poll, league coaches announced Wednesday USF women’s basketball is the favorite to win the AAC Tournament in 2022-23. This is the third year in a row the Bulls have been selected first.
USF men’s basketball was picked to finish ninth in the conference. The men’s team finished the 2021-22 season 8-23 (3-15 AAC) and were knocked out in the first round of the AAC Tournament on March 10.
The women’s team had a successful 2021-22 season, finishing 24-9 (12-3 AAC) and making the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in program history.
Coaches also recognized a couple of standouts, including senior shooting guard Elena Tsineke. She was named preseason All-Conference first team and the preseason player of the year.
Last season, Tsineke finished third in the AAC in scoring at 14.3 points per game. She also led the conference in free throw shooting at 83.7%.
Joining Tsineke on the first team is senior forward Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu. She averaged 10.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest last season. Mendjiadeu finished top 10 in the conference in both categories and recorded seven double-doubles throughout the season.
USF women’s basketball begins its season at the Yuengling Center against Morehead State on Nov. 7 at 5:30 p.m. The men’s basketball team will play an exhibition game at home against the University of Tampa on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
