Perry favorited fan Tweets in support of Heath firing
Seniors Victor Rudd and Martino Brock spoke in support of former USF coach Stan Heath following the Bulls’ regular season finale at the Sun Dome, saying critics don’t know how hard is to coach freshmen and transfers.
But one of those freshmen may have been in favor of Heath’s firing.
Heath was fired Friday, but on March 1, freshman forward Chris Perry was following a debate between fans on Twitter about Heath’s potential dismissal.
Perry, or his Twitter handle, @SKIPPYWALNUTS, an AAC All-Rookie Team selection who averaged 8.9 points and 5.3 rebounds, favorited three tweets by a fan pushing for Heath’s firing.
A Twitter conversation around the same date between Perry, junior Corey Allen Jr. and sophomore Javontae Hawkins expressed frustrations about being on the bench at the end of games.
The Sports Information Director for the men’s basketball team, Steven Schoon, said he didn’t have a statement on the issue and said there will likely be no additional media availability until a new head coach is hired.
Schoon said the Athletics Department has discussed ways in which they can regulate Twitter among athletes, but there is no system set as of now.
